Gluonics - FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Instructions for Browsers


Uploading (copy from your computer to the gluonics computer) Downloading (copy from the gluonics computer to your computer)
  1. start your browser and enter ftp://uploader@gluonics.com/ as the URL address/location. You should be prompted for a password
  2. enter the password: quark You should see a list of files already uploaded.
  3. If your browser is Netscape Navigator
    • do File -> Upload File... A file selection dialog should open.
    • find the files you want to upload, and press OK.
  4. If your browser is Internet Explorer *
    • If you have lots of files, you might like to create a new folder for them. If so, do File->New->Folder and wait a few seconds. Then rename the folder.
    • start Windows Explorer (right-click on the Start button and select Explore...)
    • find the files (or folders) you want to upload, drag them over the browser window, and drop them there.
  5. The files (or folders) should then be copied to the gluonics PC. This is an FTP upload.
    After the copy, you should see the files listed in the browser window.

* In the case of upload from Internet Explorer, it may be necessary to change some FTP settings. If you cannot connect (no password prompt), try this:
  • Do Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
  • Internet Options -> Advanced
  • If you can find Use Web Based FTP, uncheck it (turn it off)
  • If you can find Enable folder view for FTP sites, check it (turn it on)
  • If you can find Use Passive FTP for compatibility with some firewalls and DSL models, check it (turn it on)
  • Restart Internet Explorer. Note: If you can get Internet Explorer to work, then plain Windows Explorer (Start -> Run... -> explorer) should work too.
  1. start your browser and enter ftp://gluonics.com/ as the URL address/location. You should see a list of files available for download.
  2. If your browser is Netscape Navigator
    • shift-left-click on the file you want to download. A file-save dialog should open.
    • select the folder on your PC to save to, and press OK.
  3. If your browser is Internet Explorer
    • right-click on the file you want to download. A pop-up menu should appear.
    • select Copy To Folder... A file-save dialog should open.
    • select the folder on your PC to save to, and press OK.
  4. The files should then be copied to your PC. This is an FTP download.
    After the copy, you should see the files on your PC.
