... left-click (right-clicking does not work in general) on an item in the the left-most column of the table below, which will eventually lead to a Save As box. Use this box to select the folder on your hard drive. Do not attempt to play a file over this connection - it is too slow !


Problems with Browsers

  1. Internet Explorer versions 5, 5.01, 5.50 and 6.0 have a bug in Content-Disposition HTTP header processing. While the download is in progress, if the Cancel button on the progess dialog is pressed, the connection is not properly closed, and the server thinks that the download is still in progress. The page may not display again, and IE users may even have to exit IE and restart it ! IE users - do not despair, there is a workaround - but you must do a little extra work ! To prevent the problem, this server forces IE to put "[1]" just before the filename extension in the Save As box. Please manually remove the "[1]" from the filename, and then the file will be saved with the correct name. Alternatively, you can save the file and _then_ remove the "[1]". The bug is related to the one in this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article, but it is not quite the same. I do not know of any patch to correct the bug. I learned about the workaround technique from this page.

  2. Internet Explorer v 5.50.4522.1800 has a bug in Content-Disposition HTTP header processing that makes downloading from this page impossible. If the filename that appears in your Save As box is similar to file-download.cgi then your browser probably has this bug. A full description of the bug and patches to correct it are in this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article .

  3. Download Accelerator, GetRight, FlashGet, NetAnts, and other utilities that open multiple connections, will probably generate HTTP error 503. Try disabling such utilities.

Netscape Navigator 4.7 and 6.2 have both been tested with the Content-Disposition header, and found to work just fine with no workaround.
